SENDINGWERK

      Hoekom gelowiges sendingwerk doen!

A.   Die  boodskap by die geboorte van Jesus was ‘n sendingboodskap.

Mark. 16:15

D.  Jesus se laaste opdrag was ‘n sendingopdrag.

Matt. 24:14

Daar is 'n pragtige lied:

As Jesus kom op die wolke, wie reg is gaan dan saam (2x)
Waak, waak, staan in die geloof dat niemand jou die kroon ontroof.
As Jesus kom op die wolke, wie reg is gaan dan saam!

MISSIONS and a "missionary dog"

 Teach Children About Missions:
1.      INFORMATION:  Pray about the right missionaries you are going to support.  Tell the children about them and their families.  Where they stay, how they live, what they do, what they eat. Talk about the culture and customs of the country where the missionaries are working.
If possible invite missionaries to your Sunday school or Good News club so that the children can get first hand knowledge of the missionaries and their work. Ask missionaries to write you letters or send prayer cards or newsletters so that you can read them to the children.  They can also send some photographs or pictures so that children can make photo-albums or books about their missionaries

2.      PERSONAL INVOLVEMENT: Get children personally involved by praying for missionaries that you support.  Let children write to missionaries or make books or cards for missionaries and let them correspond with the missionaries. Encourage children to support missionaries by giving money for certain projects e.g. a vehicle for the missionary or money for the bricks of a building.  Make a visual to encourage children to bring money towards a project, e.g. for a building you can draw a wall with different bricks and when children bring money, write their names on the bricks, etc.

3.      MISSIONARY MEALS:  Arrange missionary meals a few times per year where the missionaries are invited to the meals and where they can share about their ministry:  They can share “Praise items, Prayer items and Problem items”.

4.      MISSIONS  AFTERNOON FOR CHILDREN:  We invited different missionaries to a missions afternoon for children.  We came together as a group in the church  – about 150 children.  We started to praise and worship God.  Then each child got a “passport” with the different countries where the missionaries were working – like Mauritius, Hereroland in Namibia and Promosa.  All the children were devided into 3 groups and as they moved to the different “mission stations” where they met the 3 missionaries we invited, they got a stamp in their passports.  Each missionary had 15 minutes to share about their mission field to the group of children with them.  We rang a bell and then the children moved to the next mission station and got their second stamp in their passports.  After the third mission station, everybody came to the church again where we had a quizz in the form of a treasure hunt about all the information they got at the different “mission stations” from our missionaries.  Then they all went out to the playground and got refreshments before they left.

5.      MISSIONARY STORIES:  Tell Missionary stories to children so that you can inspire them to become missionaries.  Stories like Tom the Cripple, Amy Carmichael, Ringu and Hudson Taylor help children to identify with the main characters and motivate them to become missionaries.

A Missionary Dog:  Mr. Sam Doherty tells the true story of a missionary dog in his book Bible talks for children nr. 2.

“Chinese soldiers lived in a large military barracks just opposite a mission church.  The missionaries tried to evangelize the soldiers and tell them about the Gospel, but everytime they were driven out.

They decided to pray about the matter and ask God to help them to find the right way to bring the Gospel message to these soldiers.

One day one of the missionaries was cleaning out a cupboard when he found some sheets of paper.  He thought they were of no use to anyone and threw them out.  He never noticed that among the loose sheets of paper were some pages from an old Chinese Bible.

A little dog was romping in the street outside and when he saw the loose pages being blown away, he seized some of them and when some Chinese children chased the little dog, he ran straight into the barracks with the loose pages of the Chinese Bible still in his mouth.

No more was thought about the little dog until, at the close of the Sunday Gospel service, a Chinese Officer accompanied by two other soldiers in uniform came into the church.  He said to the missionary in charge: “I have some torn pages here which a little dog brought into the barracks the other day.  We have read them and they seem to be a very interesting story about a military campaign.  We would like to read the rest of the story.  We think it might have come from a book in your mission.  If it has, we would like a copy so that we can read the whole story.”

The missionary looked at the loose pages and saw to his surprise that they came from the book of Joshua, one of the books in the Bible.  What a pleasure it was for him to give the officer and two soldiers a copy of the whole Bible in Chinese.

The soldiers were so grateful that they and the missionaries became great friends.  Many of the soldiers heard about the Lord Jesus Christ and became Christians.

Some years later one of these missionaries was visiting Manchuria, a part of China.  As he got off the train a tall Chinese man greeted him and asked, “Do you remember me?”

“No, I’m afraid I don’t, replied the missionary.

“I am one of the soldiers who became a Christian when I was living in the barracks opposite your church.  I have now given up the army and am preaching the good news about the Lord Jesus Christ.””

God used a little dog to take  pages from the Bible into a barracks and Chinese soldiers became Christians and even became missionaries who preached the Gospel.
Challenge:  God used the missionaries to pray for the Chinese soldiers.  He used a little dog to take the Bible pages to the barracks of the soldiers.  God touched the hearts of the soldiers and some of them became Christians.  The Lord can use you to pray for people who do not know Him.  He can use you to talk to people about the Lord Jesus.  God can use tracts that you distribute to people who do not know Him to come to Him!

HAPPINESS, JOY AND PEACE!

What is happiness? Feelings of pleasure or contentment that I have when things are going well!
What is joy? A deep inner gladness and delight that I may have even when things are not going well!
What is peace? Being calm and quiet, free from struggles in my mind and heart!

The Bible says:  "The joy of the Lord is your strength."—Nehemiah 8:10.
"And the singers sang aloud, with Jezrahiah their overseer. Also that day they offered great sacrifices, and rejoiced: for God had made them rejoice with great joy: the wives also and the children rejoiced: so that the joy of Jerusalem was heard even afar off."—Nehemiah 12:42-43.
Spurgeon explained it like this in a sermon:    “"The joy of the Lord." It springs from God, and has God for its object. The believer who is in a spiritually healthy state rejoices mainly in God himself; he is happy because there is a God, and because God is in his person and character what he is. All the attributes of God become well-springs of joy to the thoughtful, contemplative believer; for such a man says within his soul, "All these attributes of my God are mine: his power, my protection; his wisdom, my guidance; his faithfulness, my foundation; his grace, my salvation." He is a God who cannot lie, faithful and true to his promise; he is all love, and at the same time infinitely just, supremely holy. Why, the contemplation of God to one who knows that this God is his God for ever and ever, is enough to make the eyes overflow with tears, because of the deep, mysterious, unutterable bliss which fills the heart. There was nothing in the character of Jupiter, or any of the pretended gods of the heathen, to make glad a pure and holy spirit, but there is everything in the character of Jehovah both to purify the heart and to make it thrill with delight. How sweet is it to think over all the Lord has done; how he has revealed himself of old, and especially how he has displayed his glory in the covenant of grace, and in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. How charming is the thought that he has revealed himself to me personally, and made me to see in him my Father, my friend, my helper, my God.”

Read these verses and pray them for your children and grandchildren to have happiness and joy and peace in God:
Ps. 16:11 – In God’s presence is fullness of joy
Ps. 100:1 – Shout with joy to the Lord
Isaiah 56:7 – Be joyful in prayer
Rom. 15:13 – Joy comes from believing and brings hope
Gal. 5:22 – Joy is a fruit of the Spirit
3 John 4 – Joy is to see others walk in truth
Prov. 3:13-18 – Wisdom results in happiness
Phil. 4:4-7 – Be happy in the Lord
John 14:27 – Jesus gives us His peace
Col. 3:15 – Peace should rule the believer’s heart and mind

WORRY

How not to worry!
1.       Know that you are a child of God (John. 1:12) and that He is in your life because of Jesus Christ who died for your sins on the cross.  Only with Jesus in your life, you will have the peace of God that will guard your heart and mind – Philippians 4:7
2.       Know that God is Sovereign – He is the first and the last and in control everything.  Spurgeon said:  “The most important day in his life, was the day that he became converted, but the second most important day, was the day when he realized that God is Sovereign”.  Isaiah 44:6-8
3.       Trust your Sovereign Lord.  Know that He is your Shepherd and that He will lead you in the “paths of righteousness”.  Ps. 23:3
4.       Do not be afraid of death, because the Lord, your Shepherd, will be with you and take your hand. – Ps. 23:4
5.       Confess your worries to the Lord and ask Him to forgive your little faith!  Look at the birds and the flowers – how the Lord is taking care of them and realize that the Heavenly Father is also taking care of you.  Matt. 6:25-32
6.       Instead of worrying, seek the Kingdom of God.  Pray for others who have reason to worry because they do not belong to God’s Kingdom.  Talk to people about Jesus and the Kingdom of God. – Matt. 6:33
7.       Trust God to work things out for your good.  Sometimes you have to go through difficulties to trust the Lord your Father and God in a better way.  Difficult times help you to grow spiritually. – Romans 8:28-29
8.       Spend much time in reading your Bible, the Word of God, and prayer, talking to your Father  about your worries.  Ask God to help you stop worrying!  Make your request not to worry known to God by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving. God who created you and know you and want the best for you,  will hear your prayer and answer according to His will. Philippians 4:7
What does Spurgeon say about worry?
“A doubting, fretful spirit takes from us the joys we have. You have not all you could wish, but you have still more than you deserve. Your circumstances are not what they might be, but still they are not even now so bad as the circumstances of some others.” – C.H. Spurgeon
“As we feel a thousand deaths in fearing one, so do we feel a thousand afflictions in the fear of sorrows which will never come. Probably the major part of our griefs are born, nourished, and perfected, entirely in an anxious, imaginative brain. Many of our sorrows are not woven in the loom of providence, but are purely homespun, and the pattern of our own invention. Some minds are specially fertile in self-torture; they have the creative faculty for all that is melancholy, desponding, and wretched.” – C.H. Spurgeon
“Of all self-torture, that of importing future trouble into present account is, perhaps, the most insane.” – C.H. Spurgeon
