PSALMS

PRAY THE PSALMS IN THE BIBLE AS PRAYERS AND SONGS OF PRAISE, THANKS, WORSHIP, FORGIVENESS, TRUST, AND USE THEM TO ASK FOR WISDOM AND MERCY TO LIVE WISELY!

Encourage children to pray the Psalms.  The words of the Psalms are inspired by the Holy Spirit and  give us wisdom how to pray.
 

The Psalms consist of 5 song collections: Ps. 1-41; Ps. 42-72; Ps. 73-89; Ps. 90-106 and Ps. 107-150.

Each of the 150 Psalms can be grouped in one or more of  9 categories: 

A.    PSALMS OF THANKSGIVING: Praise and thank God with the Psalmists and think of what God has done.  Ps. 8, 18, 19, 29, 30, 32, 33,34, 36, 40, 41, 65, 66, 68, 76, 89, 92, 95, 100, 103, 104, 105, 106,108, 111, 113, 116, 117, 124, 129, 135, 136, 138, 139, 146, 147, 148, 150.

B.    PSALMS OF TRUST:  Praise God because He is trustworthy: Ps. 9,13, 16, 23, 25, 27, 31, 37, 49, 52, 53, 56, 62, 67, 73, 77, 87, 91, 107, 112, 115, 118, 136, 145.

C.    PSALMS PLEADING FOR MERCY, FORGIVENESS AND HELP: Read these Psalms when you need God’s mercy , help and forgiveness:  Ps. 3,4,5,6,7, 10,11,12, 13,14, 22, 25, 26, 27, 28, 35, 38, 39, 40, 42, 43, 44, 51, 54, 55, 56, 57, 59, 60, 61, 63, 64, 69, 70, 71, 74, 75,79, 80,82,83, 85, 86, 88, 90, 102,114, 120, 123, 130, 140, 141, 142, 143.

D.   PSALMS OF PRAISING GOD AS CREATOR: Take time to praise and worship God for being our Lord and Creator of the Heavens and the earth and everything He created. Ps.8,  47, 93, 96, 97, 98, 99.

E.    PILGRIMAGE PSALMS: USE THESE PSALMS TO WORSHIP GOD AND PRAY THEM WHEN YOU FACE PROBLEMS OR ASK FOR PROTECTION:  Ps. 43, 46, 48, 76, 84, 87, 120, 121, 122, 123, 124, 125, 126, 127, 128, 129, 130, 131, 132, 133, 134.

F.    VICTORY  PSALMS: Use these Psalms to ask God to rule your life and give you victory: Ps. 18, 20, 21,24, 45, 72, 89, 101, 110, 132, 144

G.   MESSIANIC PSALMS: Read and meditate on these Psalms to praise God that Jesus came to die for our sins and look forward to His coming again: Ps. 2, 8, 16, 22, 40, 45,72,110, 118.

H.   WISDOM PSALMS: Read these Psalms to give you wisdom: Ps. 1,15, 37,50, 78,81,94 and 119

I.     REVENGE PSALMS: Read these Psalms and ask God to help you to forgive your enemies and ask Him to be your judge: Ps. 1,15, 37,50, 78,81,94 and 119

B.    Vertrouenspsalms: Prys God met hierdie Psalms omdat Hy vertrou kan word: Ps. 9,13, 16, 23, 25, 27, 31, 37, 49, 52, 53, 56, 62, 67, 73, 77, 87, 91, 107, 112, 115, 118, 136, 145.

D.   Lofpsalms oor God as Skepper: Neem tyd om God te loof en prys omdat Hy die Skepper van alles is:  Ps.8,  47, 93, 96, 97, 98, 99.

E.    Pelgrimspsalms: Bid hierdie Psalms vir  God se bewaring en beskerming:   Ps. 43, 46, 48, 76, 84, 87, 120, 121, 122, 123, 124, 125, 126, 127, 128, 129, 130, 131, 132, 133, 134.

F.    Oorwinningspsalms: Met hierdie Psalms word God geloof wat die oorwinning gee: Ps. 18, 20, 21,24, 45, 72, 89, 101, 110, 132, 144

G.   Messiaanse Psalms:  Psalms wat vooruitgesien het na Jesus Christus die Messias. Loof God dat Jesus Christus na die aarde gekom het om vir ons sonde te kom sterf en sien uit na Sy Wederkoms:   Ps. 2, 8, 16, 22, 40, 45,72,110, 118.

H.   Wysheidspsalms:  Lees die Psalms om wysheid te bekom:   Ps. 1,15, 37,50, 78,81,94 and 119

I.     Wraakpsalms:   Lees die Psalms en vra die Here om vir jou te help om jou vyande te vergewe en vra dat Hy sal wraak neem:  Ps. 1,15, 37,50, 78,81,94 and 119
