Bible lesson hour - Teach children about HEAVEN

Teach children about HEAVEN and show them the way to get there.
A.   Sing a song with children on the tune of “London’s bridge is falling down"
1.Heaven is a happy place, happy place, happy place
Heaven is a happy place, clap your hands!
2. Heaven is a happy place, happy place, happy place
Heaven is a happy place, turn around!
3. Heaven is  a happy place, happy place, happy place
heaven is  a happy place, praise the Lord!
B.   Bible verse to teach children:  John 14: 2b-3:  “Jesus said: “I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am , there you may be also.””
C.   Bible lesson: Cut a shape out of thick paper that looks like a cloud. Stick cotton wool on the edges.  Glue gold glitter in the middle and fill the cloud with the different things the Bible tells us that will be in heaven. (Circle, Cross, Happy/sad faces, crown, picture of pearls or gold and an open book).  Explain the meaning as you put the different things on the cloud.
1.    A golden or yellow circle – the symbol explaining God (a circle has no beginning or end and so God has no beginning or end):  Rev. 21:3 says that Heaven is the place where God lives and where we, His children will dwell with Him one day after our death. There will be no churches or temples in heaven, but we will continually worship God with the angels around His throne.
Question:  Are you looking forward to be in heaven with God one day and worship Him with the angels?
2.    Red cross – the symbol for Jesus:  The Bible tells us that Stephen got a vision of heaven as he was dying and he saw Jesus at the right hand of God. (Acts 7:56).  Jesus who saved us from our sinful lives will be in heaven and we will see Him from face to face.  Question:  Are you looking forward to see Jesus in heaven and thank Him that He made it possible for believers like you and me to go to heaven?
3.    Sad and happy faces:  Rev. 21:4 says that God will wipe away every tear from his children’s eyes.  We will never cry or have sorrow or pain or nobody will die in heaven.  That will be wonderful to know that nobody will grow old and die or will die because of accidents or  illnesses or even murders.  Everybody will love one another because there will be no sin in heaven.
Question:  Are you looking forward to be in heaven where there will be no sin and tears or sorrow or pain?
4.    Picture of a crown.  Rev. 21:7 says that in Heaven God will be our Father and we will all be His children. We will lack nothing because we will be with our King and live like princes and princesses.
Question:  Are you looking forward to be a prince or princess in the Heavenly Kingdom of God?
5.   Picture of pearls or gold.  Rev. 21:21 says that Heaven will be like a city with 12 gates made of pearls and the streets of the city will be of pure gold, like transparent glass. There will be no sun, moon or stars.  In Heaven we will experience the perfect light and beauty that we can think of.  There will be perfect colour, sound and smells that will be indescribable.
Question: Are you looking forward to experience the indescribable beauty of heaven?
6.    Picture of an open book: Rev. 21:27 says that only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s (JESUS) Book of life, will be able to enter heaven.
Question:  Are you sure your name is written in the Book of life?  Before you can be on your way to heaven you have to accept Jesus as your Saviour. Only then your name will be in the Book of life.  Jesus said in John 14:6 “I am the way, the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Saved child: If you have the assurance that your name is written in the Book of life in heaven, then you can praise the Lord for that and pray for other people who are still not on the right way.
Unsaved child:  If you have the desire go to heaven one day, to be with God and His children, but you know you are not one of His children, then you need to pray and ask God to accept you as His child.  Ask Him to forgive your sins because you believe that Jesus died for them on the cross and ask Jesus to be your Saviour. (Romans 10:9).  Ask Him to write your name in the Book of Life.
D.  Quizz:  Cut 7 cards and write the letters H-E-A-V-E-N on them.  Write points at the back like 1000, 5000, 10,0000, etc.  Let children explain the meaning of the 6 pictures or objects on the cloud.  If they explain it correct, let them choose a letter.  The points at the back can be added up to see who are the winners and second-winners!
E.  Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank and praise you that your Word the Bible describes heaven to us.  Thank you that Jesus Christ, our Lord, made it possible for us to go to heaven one day. Thank you that He paid the price for us to be united with You and all your children in Heaven one day.  Help us to look forward to our Heavenly home and help us to tell other people how to get to Heaven. In Jesus Name.  Amen.
End with the song:  Heaven is a happy place!
