God is Sovereign

God's sovereignty by Charles Spurgeon

“There is no attribute more comforting to His children, than that of God's sovereignty. Under the most adverse circumstances, in the most severe trials--they believe that sovereignty has ordained their afflictions, that sovereignty overrules them, and that sovereignty will sanctify them all. There is nothing for which the children of God ought more earnestly to contend, than the doctrine of their Master over all creation--the kingship of God over all the works of His own hands--the throne of God and His right to sit upon that throne.

On the other hand, there is no doctrine more hated by world lings, no truth of which they have made such a football--as the great, stupendous, but yet most certain doctrine, of the sovereignty of the infinite Jehovah. Men will allow God to be everywhere, except on His throne. They will allow Him to be in His workshop to fashion worlds and make stars. They will allow Him to be in His almonry to dispense His alms and bestow His bounties. They will allow Him to sustain the earth and bear up the pillars thereof, or light the lamps of heaven, or rule the waves of the ever-moving ocean; but when God ascends His throne--then His creatures gnash their teeth!

We proclaim an enthroned God, and His right to do as He wills with His own, to dispose of His creatures as He thinks well, without consulting them in the matter. Then it is, that we are hissed and execrated; and then it is, that men turn a deaf ear to us--for God on His throne--is not the God they love. But it is God upon the throne that we love to preach. It is God upon His throne, whom we trust!”

P R A Y E R

You cannot really teach children to pray.  You can tell them that they are sinners and that they need to pray and ask God to forgive their sins and help them to be His children and followers.  The moment that they are saved by God’s grace, the Holy Spirit comes into their lives and teaches them how to pray and gives them the need to pray.
When children believe they can use the Our Father prayer as a model to pray. Believers can use many Psalms or Bible verses, even Bible books to pray.

Ideas for a day of prayer with children.  Ask the Lord to teach the children how to pray.

Start with ACTS  prayers:
A – adoration – praise God for His goodness, His love, His care, etc.
C – confess your sins – ask God to forgive you for not loving Him with all your heart, soul, strength and mind as you should.  To forgive you that you do not love your neighbors as yourself
T – thanksgiving – thank God for all his blessings
S  - supplication – pray for others:
Use the hand method to pray for others:
1.    Thumb for your family-members
2.    Index  finger – for our teachers, pastors, Sunday School teachers
3.    Middle finger – for those who rule over us
4.    Ring finger – for the sick and poor and under privileged
5.    The little finger – for ourselves and for other boys and girls

How does God answer our prayers:
“YES” – if it is according to His will and time
“NO” – if it is not according to His will and time
“WAIT” – if it is not God’s perfect time yet

Wesley Duewel says in his book “Touch the world through Prayer” the results of prayer are:

You come into contact with God
You become a fellow-worker of God
You overcome Satan
God’s power works in this world
The angels’ help and protection are put into practice
You have the power to move mountains
You have the power to bless people

A believer is as strong or as weak as his/her prayer- life!
