Bible lesson hour - salvation

1.Welcome all the children at the club or Sunday school.

2. Songs:  Praise and worship God with some songs like: He made the stars to shine;  My God is so big so strong and so mighty;  God is so good; He’s got the whole world in His hands, etc.

3. Prayer:  pray the “Our Father” prayer

4.  Memory Verse:  Revise John 3:16, Romans 3:23.  Teach Romans 5:8 as the memory verse of the day. Write the words on  3 crosses or 3 hearts (yellow one, dark one and red one) and as you read the verse you put the crosses on a board.  Explain the meaning that because God loves us, He made it possble for us to be freed from sin, by Jesus Christ who died on the cross.  Apply the verse to the saved child by telling them that because they believe in Jesus Christ, they have to tell other people about Jesus so that they can also be freed from sin.  The unsaved child need to know that they have to accept Jesus as saviour and that you are going to explain this in the Bible lesson.

5.  Song: I believe the Bible

6.  LESSON: Five simple steps to salvation (Sam Doherty)

VISUAL:

Either use a large sheet of heavy construction paper folded accordion style to reveal only one
of each of the five strips at a time; or make five strips of construction paper joined with string threaded through two holes in each strip.
Print the words shown on each strip – and add a heart of the colour indicated.
Show each strip as you teach the lesson.
If you are speaking to a large group of children who would not be able to read these words, you
could leave them out and only include the hearts.
1. God Loves Me (Gold)
2. I Have Sinned (Black)
3. He Died For Me (Red)
4. I Trust Him (White)
5. I Have Everlasting Life (Green)
Or make five large hearts of the different colours and print the words on each of them.

Introduction to lesson:   1-2-3-4-5 (Show your fingers as you count).

That’s how simple it is!
If you are not a Christian and you would like to be one there are five simple steps for you to take. 1-2-3-4-5 (Show your fingers again).
Let me show you. You can say these words as I show them – but say them inside yourself – not out loud.

Step one - God loves me (Show these words) Do you know that? Can you say it. The Bible says He does (John 3 v16). This heart is gold to show that God is pure – just as gold is a pure metal, and this gold heart tells us that God lives in Heaven where the street is made of gold. But it especially tells us that God loves you and me very much and He wants us to come and live with Him in Heaven when we die.

Step two – are you ready for the next step?Look at these words (Show them)
I have sinned.
The Bible says that everybody has sinned (Romans 3 v23) – and that includes both you and me. That’s why this heart is dark in colour, because the things we do wrong are dark and without light. Can you say these words? I am sure you can – if you are really honest.
Step three. And here is the next and the most wonderful step. Can you say and really mean these words? (Show them). He died for me (Romans 5 v8).
Who is the He? It is the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God. He came to this earth to die for us on the cross and pour out His precious Blood. That is why this heart is red. He took the punishment for our sins on the cross – so that God will not punish us. He is ready to forgive your sins. But there is something you must do.

Step four – This fourth step is when you can say and really mean these words I trust Him. That simply means that you need to ask Him to save you and forgive your sins – and trust Him to do so. The Bible says, “Trust the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved” (Acts 16 v31). That is a promise from God. All your sin will be forgiven. That’s why this heart is white – that’s how God will see you when you trust the Lord Jesus. Have you done so? If you have, you are saved and you can say these words in our fifth step.

Step five I have everlasting life (John 3 v16). I will be in Heaven forever – where the streets are paved with gold. That’s why this last heart is gold. Do you understand these five simple sentences? Can you honestly say them in your heart?

God loves me
I am a sinner
He died for me
I trust Him
I have everlasting life.

7.  Quizz:  Give each child 5 small hearts with the 5 colours of the wordless book or a little wordless book.  Let them explain to a friend the five steps that you explained to them.  Evaluate their explanations after that.

8.  Song:  What can wash away my sins?  Nothing but the blood of Jesus
What can make me whole again?  Nothing but the blood of Jesus

9.  Closing prayer and invite children who want to talk about their own salvation to come and talk to you.
