LEARNING STYLES:

The earliest guidelines about learning styles are given in the Bible in Deuteronomy 6:6-7.  There God tells his children that the Commandments should be in their hearts and they have to impress them on their children by talking (auditory learner) to them about them when they sit down at home, when they walk along roads, when they lie down and when they get up.  Also to tie them as symbols (visual learner) on their hands and foreheads.  Also write (kinesthetic learner) them on their doorframes and on their gates.
When I studied to become a teacher in 1964, we were taught to involve as many of the children’s senses as possible when we teach them.  Let them see pictures or objects, let them hear your voice and different sounds, let them touch objects, let them smell things and let them taste or eat food that you are talking about.  Let them move around during the program, because they cannot concentrate for too long.
Each child has a different learning style and you have to teach your children or grandchildren in a way that they will all benefit from it:
A.    Your auditory learner learns better by hearing.
B.     Your visual learner learns better by seeing.
C.     Your kinesthetic learner learns better by handling or touching.
To find out which of the three styles children are, you can give them a word to think about and ask them what comes to their mind when they hear the word.  For instance what comes to mind when you say the word: CAT?
A.    Your auditory learner will hear a cat purrs
B.    Your visual learner will see a cat, perhaps his own cat
C.    Your kinesthetic learner will probably feel the cats soft fur

A.    Auditory learners tend to spell phonetically. They sometimes have trouble reading, because they don't visualize well. These children learn by listening and remember facts when they are presented in the form of a story, a song or a poem.
B. Visual learners learn by watching. They call up images from the past when trying to remember. When they want to remember a person’s name, they will think back of somebody that they know with the same name and remember it.
C.  Kinesthetic learners learn best through movement and touching. They like to find out how  things work and are often successful in the practical things, like woodwork, clay work, designing of clothes or machines, making of gardens, etc.

Knowing your child's best learning style can help you to concentrate on that learning style, but also to help him to strengthen the other learning styles.   Talk to your children when you are doing things.  Explain why you do things a certain way and ask them questions to make sure they understand what you are doing.

Pray that the Lord will help you and your children to have an open relationship.  Pray that you may have the ability and authority to share Bible truths to your children wherever you are and whenever you have the time.  Make time for family devotions where you can teach your children from the Word of God.
