DO YOU WALK AND TALK THE RIGHT WAY?

Perhaps you know the song:  “Be careful little eyes what you see, be careful little ears what you hear, be careful little lips what you say, be careful little feet where you go?”   If you are a child of God it is very important to watch what you do, because your actions have an influence on other people and affect your life.
We read in the Bible of a man called David.  He was a man after God’s heart, but sometimes he had problems with the way he walked.
1.     He had problems with his head – his thoughts.  He knew that he had bad thoughts from time to time and he said to God, “Try me and know my thoughts” Ps. 139:23.  He wanted God to show him when his thoughts were not right – and help him to think the right way.
Application:  You should also pray this prayer – so that God can help you with your thoughts.  Perhaps you need to think positive thoughts about people, true thoughts, thoughts of how to build people up instead of breaking them down.
2.    He sometimes had problems with his eyes.  There had been times when he had been tempted to look at things which were wrong.  And so he prayed and made a promise to God, “I will set no evil thing in front of my eyes.” (Ps. 101:3)
Application:  Would you like to make this promise  in Ps. 101:3 too?  You need, for example, to be careful what you watch on TV.
3.    David also had problems with his lips.  David knew he had said some wrong things.  Perhaps he had told a lie or said something unkind about someone.  Whatever it was he prayed and asked God to put a guard on his mouth and help him to control his words.  Ps. 141:3  “Set A guard, O Lord, over my mouth: keep watch over the door of my lips.”
Application: What about your lips, your mouth?  Do you need to ask God to control what you say?   The 6th Commandment says:  You should not kill people, but you can kill people with your words.  You can say nasty things about people that is not true – in other words gossip about people.
When David saw all these problems in his life, what did he do?
1.     First of all he had to realize that he had the problems – sometimes it took a while before he realized that he did wrong.
2.     Then he bowed down before God and confessed his sin to God.  This is what he prayed in Ps. 51:2  “Cleanse me from my sin and wash me that I can be whiter than snow”.
3.     He also asked God to give him joy in his heart again, because when you sin and do the wrong things with your thoughts, eyes, lips and even feet walking on the wrong road, you loose your joy and peace!  Ps. 51: 14b – 15.
Application: God helped David to make a new start.  Perhaps you need to ask God to clean you and forgive you, and help you to make a new start. (1 John 1:9)
Above all David wanted to keep walking for his Lord and he knew only God could “Keep his feet from falling” (Ps. 56:13)
Do you want to walk with the Lord daily and keep from falling in sin?
Make David’s prayer your prayer: “Show me Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your Paths.”(Ps. 25:4)
Application to unsaved child:  Perhaps you think: “it does not bother me if I do or say or think wrong things, I am my own boss and can do what I want”.  Without God, you may think you are your own boss and can do what you want to do, but God’s Way is the only way for your life on earth and your life after your death. John 3:16-21
